Iran exports $100 million of medicines overseas annually

TEHRAN, Jan. 21 (MNA) – The director general of the America and Europe Affairs Office of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran said $100 million worth of drugs and medicines have been exported from the country so far since March 21, 2023.

Ahmad Firouzi put the current number of trade and commercial units in the country tasked with exporting drugs overseas at about 50, Mehr news agency reported.

He described the role of the trade centers in offering quality services for the promotion of trade and economic ties as ‘important and effective’ and added that the trade and commercial centers have played a more significant role in the administration of President Ebrahim Raeisi in line with boosting trade and improving the quality of services offered to traders.

About 50 trade centers of the country are active in various parts of the world, he said, adding that Iran has more than one trade center in some countries.

The Europe and America Office of the organization has planned to take effective steps in the coming year (to start March 21, 2024) including the exchange of trade-economic delegations, Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings, and participating in the specialized exhibitions of the target markets to boost trade relations, Firouzi emphasized.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the official pointed to the lucrative market in Poland in the fields of importing and exporting medicines and noted that this European country imports $8.5 billion worth of medicines annually.

Firouzi pointed out that Poland also exports $4.5 billion worth of medicines to other countries every year.

Poland and Norway are considered emerging markets for the country’s pharmaceutical and knowledge-based companies, he said, adding that Iran exports $100 million worth of medicines abroad annually, half of which is exported to European countries.
