National Charter for Rights of Youth Approved

TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- The National Charter of the Rights of the Youth has been approved by the Supreme Council for the Youth, the National Youth Organization told the Mehr News Agency.

The rights of the youth have been determined in the charter based on the Constitution of the Islamic Republic, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and Iran’s labor law and family planning and population law.

 

The charter, which consists of 27 articles, defines the youth as everyone between 15 and 29 years old.

 

According to the charter, the country’s youth have the inalienable right to participate in the processes of determining the political, economic, and social future of the country, working for national development, and maintaining and promoting peace and freedom of thought in Iran and the rest of the world.

 

The charter says that the youth should be allowed to participate in managing national affairs through the establishment of foundations, associations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Access to information technology (IT) and other facilities are among the rights mentioned in the charter.

 

According to the charter, specialists on the rights of the youth should be consulted, and the Supreme Council of the Youth is responsible for supervising the implementation of their ideas and plans.

 

The charter also states that young teenagers should not be allowed to work, and older youth who work should be paid a living wage, should not be subject to pressure from employers, and should be given access to educational facilities. The youths’ right to privacy is also mentioned in the charter.
