Iran-Iraq security agreement must be implemented: MP

TEHRAN, Oct. 27 (MNA) – Referring to the importance of the implementation of the Tehran-Baghdad agreement, the Vice Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security said Iran emphasizes the implementation of all the clauses of this agreement.

Heading the delegation of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran parliament to Baghdad, Ebrahim Azizi met and held talks with Mohammad Hussein Bahr Aluloom, the deputy foreign minister of Iraq.

 Referring to the importance of the implementation of the Tehran-Baghdad agreement, Azizi stressed that in case of deficiencies in the implementation, both countries will face many problems.

Appreciating the positions of the Iraqi Prime Minister in Cairo, Azizi continued that Iraq's supportive positions of the oppressed people in Gaza are based on the will of the Iraqi nation and Iran expects other countries to follow this path like Iran and Iraq.

The deputy foreign minister of Iraq also pointed out the importance of the Palestinian issue in the world, stating that the position of the Iraqi nation and government regarding Palestine is stable.

Referring to the bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran, he added that Iran is one of the priorities of the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammad al-Sudani.

"We do not allow Iraqi soil to be used for harmful actions against Iran", he said, adding that the implementation of the security agreement is closely monitored.

Stating that Iraq is against the imposition of sanctions on Iran, Bahr Aluloom continued " We support the development of trade relations between the two countries and the Shalamcheh-Basra railway plays an important role in this regard".

He also emphasized the activation of all economic MoUs between the two countries.

The 2023 Security Treaty between Iran and Iraq was a treaty signed on 19 March 2023 in Baghdad by representatives of Iran and Iraq. Under the terms of the security agreement, Iraq pledged it would not allow militant groups to use its territory in the Iraqi Kurdish region to launch any border-crossing attacks on areas close to Iran's borders.
