Iran Greco-Roman wrestlers win 2 silver medals in Asian Games

TEHRAN, Oct. 04 (MNA) – Amin Kavianinejad and Nasser Alizadeh of Iran each won a silver medal in wrestling in the 2022 Asian Games on Wednesday.

Kavianinejad started the men's Greco-Roman 77Kg with a 9-3 win over South Korea’s Hyeonwoo Kim and then defeated Uzbekistan’s Dilshod Omongeldiyev in the quarterfinal and China’s Rui Liu in the semifinal. Kaviyaninejad was defeated against Kyrgyzstan’s Akzhol Makhmudov in the final bout.

Alizadeh also lost to Uzbekistan’s Jalgasbay Berdimurtov 7-4 in the final bout of men’s 87kg weight class. He first defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Atabek Azisbekov 7-1 and then emerged victorious over Turkmenistan’s Azym Annamammedov 7-1 and Indian Sunil Kumar 5-1 before reaching the final.

Earlier, Danial Sohrabi defeated Chinese wrestler Lei Li to win the bronze medal in the men’s Greco-Roman 67kg.

With more than 12,000 competitors from 45 nations and territories, the Asian Games has more participants than the Olympics.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
