Azerbaijan’s Qasimov to perform open-air concerts in Tehran

TEHRAN, Sept. 12 (MNA) -- Azeri singer Alim Qasimov is scheduled to perform open-air concerts at Tehran's Niavaran Palace on September 22 and 23.

Ferghana Qasimov, Natigh Shirinov, Rauf Islamov, Rafael Asgarov, and Ali Asgar Mammadov will accompany Qasimov, who was the winner of the 1999 UNESCO Music Prize, which is presented by the International Music Council of the organization.

Qasimov is recognized as a virtuoso for his renderings of mugham, the most complex musical style of the Azerbaijan Republic. It is one of the classical music styles of the Caucasus region and Turkestan. The word mugham itself is derived from maqam, which means mode in Arabic.

He previously performed in Tehran in 2003 and 2004.
