Mountaintop concert to echo on Damavand

Mountaintop concert to echo on Damavand

TEHRAN, Aug. 1 (MNA) -- The band “Chekad-e Alborz” conducted by Hanif Shahmirzadi is to perform Iranian classical music on the summit of Mount Damavand in mid-August, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Tuesday.

The band will be accompanied by vocalist Mohammadreza Kia-Moqaddam and a group of mountaineers and documentary filmmakers.

Kia-Moqaddam said he got the idea for the mountaintop concert when his friend Siavash Yazdani was lost on Mt. Damavand in winter 2004.

“I was shocked when I first heard the news. Then several pieces were formed in my mind narrating my feelings in those days. And when everyone totally lost hope about finding him, I decided to perform a collection of my works on top of Damavand. The idea was warmly received by his family and the mountaineers.

“Of course, there are several pieces which will be performed on the way to Damavand as well to keep the companions’ spirits high.

“The climate on top of the mountain is unpredictable, so it will be a hard task to perform. But we will try to give our performances as soon as we arrive on the summit, and then we will return soon.”

Hassan Najjarian and his film crew, who had previously made the documentary “Climbing to Everest”, will film the performances.

The band hopes to also record the works on an album entitled “Worship” after they return.
