RANS presents Kapista Gold Medal to Iranian professor

TEHRAN, July 24 (MNA) – Abolhassan Vafaii, an Iranian civil engineering professor, grabbed the coveted Kapista Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RANS).

 

The professor of Sharif University of Technology has been given the medal for his outstanding scientific activities.

 

Vafaii, also a member of the Academy of Sciences of Islamic Republic of Iran, has received over 30 domestic and international honorary awards, including the Academic Palm award of The French Ministry of Science and Technology.   

 

Founded by some Nobel Prize winners, including Nikolay G. Basov, Paul Berg, Herbert C. Brown, John R. Vane, Gertrude B. Elion, and Melvin Calvin in 1990, the RANS includes 23 central sections, more than 100 regional and thematic branches, the scientific centers, incorporated into eight blocks, which are working on the appropriate scientific directions.

 

Since its establishment, the academy members and structural divisions have considerably grown.

 

In the first years (1990-1992), the RANS structure totaled no more than 10 sections and regional branches, and the total number of its members did not exceed 1,000 people.
