Names of Iranian banks subject to SWIFT sanctions to be released tomorrow

TEHRAN, Nov. 10 (MNA) – Names of Iranian banks which are subject to SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) sanctions will be published tomorrow.

Board Member of the Iranian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Seyed Hossein Salimi made the above remark and said, “currently, any limitation has not been imposed for the accessibility of Iranian banks to this global financial messaging system.”

Tomorrow is the deadline set by the US Department of Treasury for disconnecting Iranian banks to SWIFT, he said, adding, “SWIFT will announce the names of Iranian banks which will be disconnected to SWIFT system either today or tomorrow.”

A lot of news have been published in recent days about SWIFT sanctions on some Iranian banks while some banks have got US sanctions waiver, he said, adding, “totally, the source of these news has not yet been confirmed and cannot be relied upon.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salimi pointed to the rumors on the names of authorized Iranian banks to transfer foreign currency for food and drugs and said, “it is said that history and record of Iranian banks, which were using SWIFT in previous sanctions period, will be examined precisely and if approved, these banks will be allowed to get access to SWIFT system but the new banks, which have been set up since the previous sanctions period, should be investigated thoroughly.”

Salimi once again reiterated, “presently, Iranian banks have been connected to SWIFT system and any restriction has not yet been exerted in this field.”
