Detention of Iranian expats at US request case of hostage-taking

TEHRAN, Jul. 10 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tue. that the Foreign Ministry is following up in earnest on the cases of Iranian expatriates who are detained 'illegally' outside the country at Washington's request.

Zarif made the remarks in separate meetings with a group of families of Iranian expatriates who have been detained illegally’in different countries upon the United Sates' request under the pretext of its unilateral sanctions.

In the meetings, the Iranian foreign minister promised that the Foreign Minister will follow up on their cases in earnest.

The families meeting with Zarif informed the Iranian top diplomat of the latest news of their beloved ones and called on the Foreign Ministry to do its best for their releases.

Zarif expressed his appreciation to the families for their patience, stressing that the Foreign Ministry will take necessary diplomatic and legal measures to make sure that they are released.

He further described their politicized detention as “completely illegal, cruel, and a case of hostage taking with the aim to extort money.”
