Ancient mound to be excavated after 80 years

TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (MNA) – Eighty years ago renowned archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein conducted surveys in western Iran, and the Girairan mound was one of the sites. Iranian archaeologists are going to excavate the place after 80 years.

Eighty years after the surveys conducted by Aurel Stein, the Girairan mound site of ancient layers is going to be excavated again. The hill is located in village under the authority of Aleshtar city. Aleshtar is the capital of Selseleh County in Lorestan Province of Iran.

 Eighty years ago renowned archeologist Sir Aurel Stein conducted surveys in western Iran and published the results of his research in a book titled ‘Old Routes of Western Iran’.

Then the archeologist worked on some Bronze Age graves and the site has been left untouched since then.
