No foreign troops can be deployed in Caspian Sea: Zarif

TEHRAN, Dec. 05 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif pointed to the negotiations over Convention on Caspian Sea legal status between 5 littoral states in Russia, saying no foreign military force can be deployed in the Caspian Sea

Speaking upon his arrival in Moscow on Monday night, Javad Zarif said “so far, 49 expert meetings have been held on this issue, and a special expert meeting was set up in the last three days to prepare the ministerial meeting and today and tomorrow a ministerial meeting will be held to prepare the presidential meeting to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.”

He underlined that so far good progress has been made in Convention on Caspian Sea legal status, adding that, alongside this convention, 12 documents have been agreed upon.

“According to one of the agreements, no foreign troops can be deployed in Caspian Sea, and on the other hand, five countries agreed to use the flags of the five countries while shipping in the sea,” he added.

Pointing to the environmental cooperation, Zarif said the five countries have reached agreements and there is no intention to create documents at today's and tomorrow's summits, but it is supposed to prepare documents for the meeting to be held at the presidential level.
