Speaker of Iran's Parliament said that Mr. Talabani had established good and constructive relations with the Islamic Republic during their presidential term, and they are among the most persistent figures of contemporary Iraqi history.
Addressing the public session of Iranian parliament on Wednesday, Ali Larijani extended condolences over demise of former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
“Mr. Talabani was one of the most resilient figures in the fight against Saddam’s regime,” noted the official condoling passing away of Talabani to his family and the Iraqi people.
Larijani went on to stress that Talabani had a long period of serious struggle with the regime of Saddam, especially during harsh years of Holy Defense when he stood on the side of Muslim soldiers.
He emphasized that Jalal Talabani was one the influential figures in the new Iraqi era when a democratic system was formed; “he played a great role both in formation of the new Iraqi government and in its management as the president.”.
“During his presidency, he had established excellent constructive relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and it must be rightly admitted that Talabani remains as an indelible and immanent character in Iraq’s contemporary history.
At the end of his remarks, Iran’s Parliament speaker expressed hope that Talabani’s honorable family will accept his condolences and that his memory will remain in Iraq’s history.
Talebani reportedly died after his condition rapidly deteriorated on Tuesday, his close friend said Erbil officials.
