Iran's army helicopter crashes in Urmia

TEHRAN, Sep. 29 (MNA) – An accident in West Azerbaijan saw a helicopter of IRIAA crashed, a flight engineer killed and two crew members injured on Thursday morning.

Early on Thursday, a Bell 214 helicopter of Islamic Republic of Iran Army Aviation (IRIAA) crashed in North Western city of Urmia while conducting a pilot flight.

The accident claimed the life of the flight technician of the chopper and the pilot and the co-pilot of the helicopter were injured and taken to hospital. The two are speculated to leave hospital in the next one or two days.

The helicopter had recently been overhauled and it was a pilot flight to test its well-being after the repairs.

While the chopper was flying over the region of Oshnaviyeh County, in Iranian West Azerbaijan Province, it faced technical problems and with the immediate reaction of pilot it tried to land at an evacuated area that the tragedy occurred.
