Iran downs host Morocco to finish 3rd

TEHRAN, Jul. 24 (MNA) – Beach volleyball outfit of Iran managed to overcome Moroccan rivals in the paly-off in order to stand third at FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2017.

During the tournament competed in Agadir of Morocco, Iranian and Moroccan teams met in a third-place showdown on Sunday and, at the end of an intense and breath-taking competition, Bahman Salemiinjehboroun and Rahman Raoufi of Iran pulled out a 2-1 win over host country opponents landing to occupy the third position.

Set results indicate that Iran, after losing the first set 19-21, came back to the match by breezing past rivals from Morocco in the following two (21-19, 16-14) and became the victor after 59 minutes of play by presenting an awe-inspiring display of sportive talents. The bronze medal marked Iran’s first ever medal in Beach Volleyball World Tour.

The thought-provoking part of the very tight and dramatic bronze medal match was presence of Moroccan refereed at a time when Morocco was one side to the debut.

Earlier in the semifinals, France had thrashed home heroes 2-0 while Iran suffered a 2-1 (21-13, 17-21, 15-11) loss in the face of the Qatari outfit comprising Julio and Tijan.

France’s Youssef Krou and Quincy Aye triumphed with the men’s title at the Agadir stop on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2017. Qatar’s Julio Cesar Do Nascimento Junior and Ahmed Tijan, seeded third in the main draw, took the silver.

The city of Agadir was hosting the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) 2017 double-gender Beach Volleyball World Tour from July 21 to 23.

Beach volleyball players of Iran are slated to leave for Austria today in order to take part in 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships to convene in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

The 11th edition of the event will be competed by 48 teams in 12 groups from July 26 to August 06 and the Iranian squad has been seeded in Group L against two teams from Canada and one from the host nation.
