Astana has already hosted two rounds of negotiations between Damascus and representatives of armed opposition groups on January 23-24 and on February 15-16, aiming to maintain the ceasefire brokered in December by Russia, Iran and Turkey as guarantors. The third round of talks is due to take place in Astana on March 14-15.
Russia and Turkey have also confirmed their participation at the deputy foreign ministers level according to Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov who has said the format and agenda of the next round of intra-Syrian talks in Astana this week would depend on guarantor countries, as well.
