Pakistani high-ranking delegation en route to Iran

TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (MNA) – Pakistani PM’s Adviser Sartaj Aziz heading a high-ranking delegation composed of secretaries of defense and water and power have departed for Tehran this morning for a two-day visit.

During the trip which comes with Pakistan’s goodwill message, Sartaj Aziz as the head of the country’s diplomatic apparatus will hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and a number of other senior Iranian officials on expansion of bilateral relations, the upcoming Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to be hosted by Pakistan, and a number of regional issues.

Pakistani Defense Secretary Zamir ul Hassan is scheduled to meet with Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan to confer on expanding defense cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting between Pakistani Secretary of Water and Power Mohammad Younus Dagha and Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian, the two sides will discuss various projects on mutual cooperation in the field of electricity.

Iran currently exports 104MW electricity to Pakistan and has voiced readiness to increase the volume up to 3,000MW. Pakistan has expressed interest in importing electricity from Iran to supply its port city of Gwadar.
