Iran strongly condemns deadly terrorist attack in Kandahar

TEHRAN, Jan. 17 (MNA) – Iran slammed the terrorist attack in Afghanistan's Kandahar that left a number of Emirati diplomats and Afghan officials and citizens killed or injured.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi extended condolences to Afghan and the UAE governments as well as families of victims of the tragic terrorist attack.

While expressing sympathy over the tragic event, Ghasemi called terrorism the most important security challenge in the region and the world.

“It is targeting peace and security of countries and nations without any exception,” he added.

He noted that fighting against terrorism requires all-out and collective efforts of regional countries and the international community.

A bomb blast on Wednesday last week killed a total of at least 11 people and wounded 16 others, mostly top Afghan government officials. Provincial governor Homayun Azizi and UAE Ambassador to Kabul Juma Mohammed Abdullah al-Kaabi, were among those wounded.

The United Arab Emirates declared three days of mourning for the victims after the attack which came on January 11.
