Petchem exports reach $6.5bn in 9 months

TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (MNA) – Iran exported over 15 million tons of petrochemical and polymer products worth about 6.5 billion dollars in the past nine months.

During the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (began March 20), more than 15.2 million tons of various petrochemical and polymer products were deployed to Asian, European and South American markets.

Despite a growth in weight, the value of exported petrochemical products experienced a plunge as compared with the same period last year.

In the timespan between March 20 to December 20, the overall value of Iran’s petchem exports stood at about 6.5 billion dollars and the figure is estimated to climb to approximately 9 or 9.5 billion dollars.

One major reason for the downward trend in worth of petrochemical exports pertains to the decline in global crude oil prices as the price of petchem commodities have plummeted by 50 to 60 per cent in the present year.

Moreover, roughly 37 million tons of petrochemical products have been manufactured so far in the ongoing year.

Presently, Iran’s petrochemical industries are performing at 70 to 73% of their nominal capacity the reason to which concerns a want of feedstock, ethane in particular not to mention seasonal gas outages in some petchem complexes.
