Iran shuts all consulates in Turkey following Mon. assassination

TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has closed all three of its consulates in Turkey following the armed assault at a photo exhibition that killed Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a statement announced that the country’s consulates in three Turkish cities of Istanbul, Trabzon and Erzurum will be closed on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

The Embassy has requested Iranian nationals to avoid visiting these consulates on Tuesday.

The decision has been taken following the terror attack on Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov that was carried out by a 22-year-old off-duty police officer named Mevlut Mert Altintas at the opening of the "Russia through Turks' eyes" photo exhibition.

Turkish officials said the gunman was killed by other officers in a shootout.
