The final showdown of the tournament was attended by Iranian and Brazilian outfits on Saturday evening in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Beach soccer players of Iran conceded a 2-6 defeat in the hands of Brazilians to miss the title at one of the most prestigious competitions in the sport’s calendar.
Iranians had the upper hand early in to the final encounter as they were first to score a goal. Nevertheless, it was Brazil’s squad who kept finding the net at a series of flawless and polished performances.
Persians had previously trounced the USA, Russia, Tahiti on road to the finals.
In the third twelve-minute period, Iran failed to offer its usual dazzling staging as fatigue had left them short of liveliness and despite carrying out several attacks on the rival, they remained unsuccessful in narrowing the difference.
Last year, Iran beat Egypt 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the regulation time, and claimed the third spot.
The Iranians defeated Russia 4-3 in the title showdown of the 2013 edition of the Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup and emerged champion.
Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2016, the sixth edition of the tournament, started at the Dubai International Marine Club on November 1 and concluded on November 5.
