News on Boeing 737 purchase rejected

TEHRAN, Sep. 21 (MNA) – An official at Civil Aviation Organization of Iran (CAOI) clarified that a 737 jet has been rented and not purchased by Iranian Naft Airlines.

Reza Jafarzadeh, the Head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization public relations office, rejected the earlier news on purchase of Boeing 737 by Naft Airlines underling that the aircraft has only been leased out to Iran.

Previously, Managing Director of Iranian Naft Airlines Nurollah Rezai Niyaraki was quoted as saying that “one of the four Boeing 737 single-aisle jetliners bought from the US was delivered to Naft Airlines on Sunday.”

However, purchase of Boeing aero planes by Iran is still faced by restrictions imposed by the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Iran Air and America's Boeing inked an MoU in June over sales of 80 aircraft and lease of 29 more in a potential deal worth about $25 billion while the deal faced opposition in US Congress raising doubts about deliveries of the jets.
