Hand-woven carpet exports up by 40%

TEHRAN, Jul. 19 (MNA) – INCC head said exports of hand-woven carpets have experienced a 40-percent increase in the first three month of the current Iranian calendar year (began March 20).

Head of Iran National Carpet Center (INCC) Hamid Kargar discussed latest status of Iran’s carpets exports saying “despite all restrictions, the Iranian product has managed to enter the American market.”

“In the first quarter of the current Iranian year, more than 2000 tons of hand-woven carpet worth 66 million dollars was shipped to foreign markets,” he continued.

Kargar went on to underline that in the meantime the exports volume for the Persian carpets has experienced a 120-percent surge in weight as well as a 39.8-percent growth in value as compared with the same period last year.

The official expressed hope the upward trend in sales of the precious Iranian product will continue in coming months.

“In the first three month of the previous Iranian calendar year, about 90 tons of hand-woven carpet worth 47 million dollars were deployed to other countries,” recalled INCC head.

He deemed the lifting of international sanctions against Iran as the main cause of escalation in carpet sales; “post-JCPOA conditions provided the country with the possibility to enter the US carpet market after a five-year hiatus,” Kargar concluded.
