Iran slams Almaty terror attack

TEHRAN, Jul. 19 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the Monday terrorist attack in Kazakhstan’s largest metropolis Almaty which left at least five people dead and nine injured.

Bahram Ghasemi, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, voiced deep concern over the escalation of terrorist activities in neighboring countries, and called on all countries in the region to combat terrorism in a joint, aligned effort.

“Terror and violence in any form and at any time and place, are condemnable and unacceptable,” he stressed.

Gunmen stormed into a police station in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan on Monday and killed four police officers and injured a number of others, according to local sources. Following the attack, Almaty authorities announced a red level anti-terror alert and conducted an extensive anti-terror operation in the city. The operation is now over, and red level alert has been lifted.
