‘Economy’ should constitute a priority for new Parl.

TEHRAN, Jun. 05 (MNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution has told Parliamentarians representatives should cooperate with government along with attending their inherent supervisory duties.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei received newly elected 10th Parliament on Sunday where he specified priorities for the parliament which included economy as the first priority of grave importance; “the Establishment feels shame no less than the unemployed young cohort do; the unemployment should be seriously addressed by the government as well as by the Parliament in giving the public a modicum of hope for the betterment of the situation,” Ayatollah Khamenei famously said. “Resistance Economy, culture, domestic policies along with foreign and regional policies constitute other priorities where Parliament should remain ‘Revolutionary’ in legislation while keeping the public untouched by the tumultuous conditions which would destroy the public equanimity,” he demanded. “Parliament should not be silent in the face of imperialism and their encroachments on the Revolutionary ideals.”

He emphasized especially on working with the Cabinet, while attending to their inherent duties by Parliament; “Parliament to the Cabinet is as the rail machine to train; that is, your action provides roadmap for future movements of the cabinet and specifies a path for it; however, this would not rule out the fact that Parliament should also oversee the government in executing the law. It may well attend their regulating and monitoring duties,” he suggested.

“It is up to Parliamentarians how to depict the Parliament image in general and to reflect the view that Parliament should be or is the top body over all other bodies; representatives should act so as to represent their constituency in best manner possible; a good legislation should have quality, comprehensive, transparent, not conflicting with other articles of the law, anti-corruption, in line with grand scheme of policies of the Establishment, informed by expert views voiced by the Cabinet, and containing the national expediencies in preference over immediate partisan interests,” Ayatollah Khamenei told the meeting. “Economy provides the Parliament an area of ample opportunity to serve the nation. Moving in the path to realize Resistance Economy policies would also provide Parliament with a direction to monitor government performance; recession and unemployment is also a grave priority area.”

Leader of the Islamic Revolution then turned to much-quoted theme in his addresses, the US unending enmity to Iran; “the whole system in the US should receive overwhelming responses should they make again excessive demands,” he said.

On the issue of internal conflicts in the Parliament, Ayatollah Khamenei provided general guidelines; “representatives would vote for or against any specific issues; however, this should not end in outright physical conflict as it did in the previous Parliament, where Parliament was effectively stifled in doing its normal functioning. Such conflict would have spill-over effect, imbuing the public with the tension and psychological impacts; a peaceful parliament would effectively be translate into the same level of equanimity in the public,” he emphasized.

On the importance of the Middle East, Leader believed that ample natural resources had contributed to the region’s strategic place as the center of energy of the world; “the West and the US have been planning for a ‘greater Middle East,’ which however exposed their true nature in terms of colonizing the region; to this exposure, resistance by the Islamic Republic contributed the most,” he concluded.
