Zarif, Lavrov confer on Syria ceasefire

TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) – Iranian FM Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in a telephone call on Tue. exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian crisis and ways to end hostilities in the war-torn country.

According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on May 10 discussed the implementation of a ceasefire in Syria.

During the call, the two sides stressed the need for combating terrorist groups in Syria and blocking tunnels of their financial and military support from outside.

The two diplomats further called on the Syrian Support Group of Vienna to give special attention to the implantation of UNSC resolutions of 2254 and 2268, and concentrate their efforts on fighting terrorist groups, particularity ISIL and Al-Nusra Front.

The next meeting of Syria Support Group will take place on May 17 in Vienna.
