Hashemi bags silver at Asian Weightlifting C’ships

TEHRAN, Apr. 30 (MNA) – Iranian lifter at 94kg section managed to win the silver medal at in the 2016 Asian Weightlifting Championships on Friday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Ali Hashemi of Iran lifted 174kg in the snatch and 200kg in clean and jerk in the 94kg weight category in order to win the silver medal for a total of 374kg.

Kazakhstan’s Vladimir Sedov won the gold medal with a total of 386kg and bronze medal went to South Korean Park Han-woong with 368kg.

In the same weight category, Iran’s Reza Biralvand overcame the 165kg weight in the snatch and lifted 190kg in clean and jerk to land fifth in Asia with a total of 355kg.

Previously on Thursday, Iran’s Ayoub Mousavi had claimed a silver medal in the 85kg.

Bringing together a total of 161 lifters from 30 countries together and serving as a qualification event for the Olympics, the 2016 Asian Weightlifting Championships was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between April 22 and April 30, 2016.
