236 business leaders to join Park's Iran visit

SEJONG, Apr. 27 (MNA) – A group of 236 South Korean entrepreneurs and business group leaders will join President Park Geun-hye's upcoming trip to Iran in a bid to tap deeply into the Middle East market, the government said Wednesday.

The list released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy involves representatives of 38 large groups and companies, including Samsung Electronics Co. and Hyundai Motor Co., and 146 small and mid-sized firms.

It also contains 50 trade associations and two hospitals, led by Kim In-ho, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, and Huh Chang-soo, leader of the Federation of Korean Industries.

President Park is scheduled to visit the Middle East country from May 1 to May 3 to hold a summit meeting with her Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, to discuss ways to bolster bilateral cooperation following the lift of international sanctions earlier this year.

The ministry said the business delegation will participate in a business forum and an investment fair to meet local buyers.

Populated by 80 million, Iran is emerging as one of the most attractive lands of opportunity in the world, as the oil-rich country is seeking large-scale infrastructure development projects to rebuild its economy that was hampered by decades-long international sanctions.
