Iran, China stress political resolution, gravity in Syrian issue

TEHRAN, Apr. 27 (MNA) – Representatives from Iran and China met in Tehran on Tue. to confer on the necessity of a more serious fight against terrorism in Syria.

Iranian Deputy FM for Arab-African Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, held talks with China's envoy to Syria, Xie Xiaoyan, in the Iranian capital on Tuesday, where the two sides strongly denounced the violation of ceasefire by armed, hostile groups in Syria, and highlighted the need for sending humanitarian aid to people across the war-torn country.

Amir-Abdollahian noted the intertwined and close ties between the armed opposition groups and terrorist groups such as ISIL and Al-Nusra Front, saying “even the Americans have admitted that distinguishing between the terrorists and other armed forces in Syria is very difficult.”

“The agreement reached in the meeting of International Syria Support Group (ISSG) was that in parallel with political negotiations, the fight against terrorism would continue with serious resolve, but regrettably, we have seen no global effort in fighting terrorism,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

Xie Xiaoyan, China’s newly-appointed envoy to Syria, who had also served as ambassador to Iran and Ethiopia, stressed his country’s position on finding a political solution and adopting the policy of patience and trust in the outcome of the Syrian peace talks.

“The Syrian issue is very complicated and we have to give the Geneva talks a chance to achieve results,” he said.

The Chinese envoy underscored the Syrian people’s will in determining the future prospect of Syria, drafting the constitution and electing a president, saying “no outside power is allowed to interfere with these affairs, and it must be left to the Syrian people themselves to decide for their own future.”

The two sides further deemed the decision of Syrian people the only legitimate basis for the future of Syria, which is in accordance with international law.
