WHO to hold consultation on status of Zika research

GENEVA, Mar. 05 (MNA) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that it would hold a consultation next week with researchers and public health experts to assess progress on Zika research.

Participants in the meeting, which will be held on March 7-9 in Geneva, will present the current status of Zika clinical research and the development of therapeutic products to address the Zika outbreak.

Health authorities will also address the issues of medical countermeasures and research priorities in product streams: diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics and vector control.

In addition, WHO will devote some of the consultation to the movement on transparent and real-time data sharing in research, crucial at all times but particularly during health emergencies.

Brazil remains the country most affected by Zika virus, followed by Colombia.
