Nawaz Sharif arrives in Tehran

TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (MNA) – Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif arrived in Tehran on Tuesday.

Upon their arrival at Mehrabad Airport, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan warmly welcomed the Pakistani high-ranking officials who are scheduled to stay in Iran for two days.

During his visit to Tehran, Nawaz Sharif will meet President Hassan Rouhani and First Vice President Es'hagh Jahangiri.

Premier's visit aims at mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia over the recent severing of diplomatic ties between the two countries on January 4.

So far, some countries, including Indonesia and Iraq, have offerred to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Iran as rift sparked following the execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr by Saudi officials.
