Araghchi:

Iran, 5+1 ‘committed’ to JCPOA obligations

Iran, 5+1 ‘committed’ to JCPOA obligations

TEHRAN, Jan. 14 (MNA) – Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator has said both sides in the JCPOA agreement have remained committed to their obligations.

Abbas Araghchi, deputy-FM and a senior nuclear negotiator addressed on Wednesday a meeting in Tehran where he provided a summary of what had been happening since July 14 2015; “the West has acted according to the agreement provisions about the removal of sanctions on Iranian economy by the day of the implementation; Mr. Baidinejad has been in Vienna to participate in expert-level meeting which will reportedly hit the final outcome,” he told the meeting.

Araghchi called for a general distinction between US secondary sanctions against Iran and sanctions primarily targeting Iran’s economy and endorsed with close collaboration of the UN and the EU; “the Visa Waiver Program specifically affects non-US citizens visiting Iran. The subjects of the law will not be able to trade with Iran or come to Iran for business,” he added. “However, on the day before the White House issued a statement about the Congress bill, Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act, threatening that the president of the US will veto the law if the bill is approved; Zionist and Saudi Arabian lobbying groups have waged huge efforts to make the bill approved by the Congress in line with their sabotage of the JCPOA since last year, but if all efforts fail to stop the bill, Mr. Kerry’s letter to Foreign Minister Zarif provides enough assurances that US will work to minimize and even to avoid an effect of the bill on JCPOA implementation,” he asserted.

“The letter emphasizes that the government would not allow sanctions which clearly violate JCPOA to become law,” Araghchi added.

About the concerns over restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program as JCPOA approaches implementation, Araghchi said that Iran’s missile tests provided a clear example of the unrestricted nature of Iran’s programs, and where US and EU officials admitted that it would not violate the JCPOA, however, some of them may consider the missile test in contrast to some UN resolutions ; “Iran’s PMD (Possible Military Dimension) was one of the most complex of the political history of Iran; the west once believed Iran’s program deviated to weapons; despite the concerns over the issue, a resolution was worked out which effectively closed Iran’s file on military dimensions of its nuclear program,” he emphasized.

About removing of the heart of Aark Heavy Water Reactor, nuclear negotiator confirmed that the heart had been removed, and that by Friday (January 15), the IAEA would finish its verification mechanism on Iran’s commitment to JCPOA; “on Friday, IAEA will receive report of its inspectors, and upcoming Saturday or Sunday will be the finish line of the nuclear marathon,” he rejoiced to say.
