Iran's Foreign Ministry regrets conflicts in Nigeria

TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari called for solidarity and avoiding hasty and nonconstructive measures in Nigeria to fight terrorism.

Expressing regret over the bloody conflicts in the past two days in Nigeria, Jaber Ansari said that the conflicts in Zaria on Sunday and Saturday which resulted in death and injury of a large number of Muslims and worshippers, is a source of sorrow.

Deeming Nigeria as an important member-state of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the spokesman said the African country is now facing the problems steming from extremism and Takfiri terrorism, adding "we hope that under such conditions maintaining tranquility and national solidarity to fight terrorism to be prioritized."

The Nigerian troops raided the house of the Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and killed a number of his followers. Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky was also arrested.
