During commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the agreement, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced some of the program's goals for the coming years.
The president stated that with the help of Cuban doctors working in the Barrio Adentro mission, primary health care will be improved to cover 100 percent of the country.
According to Maduro, this indicator was barely 20 percent 15 years ago, but the country managed to raise it to almost 70 percent by late 2014.
After mentioning the specific achievements as a result of cooperation with Cuba in the healthcare sector, the president stressed that the Barrio Adentro mission saved more 1.76 million Venezuelan lives.
It is the largest humanitarian mission in the history of Venezuela, and possibly of the world, said Maduro, who marked the difference between that aid and practiced simulations by powerful countries to intervene or interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
According to the president, the battle to raise the educational level to sixth grade in a short period will be also achieved with Cuba's support.
Thanks to Cuba, about 1,791,804 Venezuelans, previously excluded, have learned to read and write, he noted.
As part of the celebrations, until October 15, some 171 new Socialist Missions Bases will open in a similar number of regions of the country, he informed. The president said the cooperation agreement between the two countries shows the two people's brotherhood, exalted by their historic leaders, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.
