Amidi bags silver medal at Kazakhstan Open 2015

TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (MNA) – Iran’s last representative in Kazakhstan’s Open Taekwondo Championships 2015 has chosen not to fight for gold medal due to injury, thus conceding the first place.

Iran’s national Taekwondo team had attended Kazakhstan’s tournament winning a gold medal by Arman Hadipour on the opening day as well as a silver medal by Omid Amidi on the last day of the competitions.

Fighting in the -87kg weight category, Omid Amidi defeated his Kazakh rival 16-2 and advanced to the final by winning over the French fighter 13-2.

Since he had suffered from injuries in the two previous fights he refused to take part in the final of the tournament in order to prevent aggravation of injuries as well as to have a strong presence in the upcoming Croat championships.

Other Iranian athletes present in Kazakhstan failed to achieve medals in the competitions.

Almaty hosted international taekwondo (WTF) championships ‘Kazakhstan Open’ which was held at the Baluan-Sholak Sports Palace on 25-28 of October, 2015.

Representatives from more than 20 countries had attended the competition and more than 500 junior and senior athletes were competing for the important ranking points and championships title.
