Construction of smart nanocomposite energy-absorbing armor for personal protection has attracted many researchers to design new generation vests with consideration of weight, resistance, etc.
Malek-Ashtar University researchers managed to construct lightweight armors, using nanotechnology, without reducing their penetration resistance.
The armor is composed of two main components, including a fabric with high tensile strength such as "Kevlar" and hardened undercutting fluid.
The liquid is such that if damaged or placed under sudden force, its viscosity will increase in a fraction of a second, strongly absorbing imported energy. The viscosity of a fluid is a measure of its resistance to gradual deformation by shear stress or tensile stress.
The lightweight, flexible bulletproof and anti-stab armor, in addition to high flexibility, high hyperhidrosis and breathing ability, is resistant against several blows or knife cuts on the body and energy absorption at high weight.
This new armor can be used for personal protection against mines, bombs, bullets, knives, armored vehicles and fighter aircraft protection, blankets to absorb the blast wave, anti-mine boots for soldiers, gloves resistant to cutting to protect doctors and nurses.
