Deputy FM reports on missing pilgrims’ latest status

TEHRAN, Oct. 5 (MNA) – Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs has said that the missing pilgrims of Mina incident might be killed or injured staying in Saudi hospitals or even arrested.

“By the passage of time, we will have less hope that the missing pilgrims might be alive,” said the official regarding the status of missing pilgrims.

Describing the latest measures taken to track the status of the former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi, Hassan Ghashghavi said that, “Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seriously pursuing Roknabadi’s situation in Saudi Arabia as a well-known figure in the region.”

Referring to the issues raised about the possibility of Roknabadi’s abduction in Saudi Arabia and his transfer to the occupied territories, Ghashghavi stated that, “these are only speculations but they cannot be denied or confirmed with certainty.”

“I have visited Mina and the site of the accident in person and Roknabadi’s abduction is unlikely because the kidnappers could have died in the incident,” he added.

Ghashghavi further asserted that, “on the basis of location and time conditions as well as the statements made by the people who had accompanied Roknabadi before his disappearance, the abduction hypothesis does not seem to be likely.”
