European, American, Asian countries keen to expand ties with Iran

TEHRAN, Oct. 01 (MNA) – FMs of different European, American and Asian countries met Iran’s Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday calling for expansion of ties.

Foreign ministers of Mexico, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and South Korea met Zarif, in separate meetings, and discussed different global issues, including, the Syrian crisis, Yemen, nuclear agreement as well as Mina’s tragedy on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting with Mexico Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu, the Iranian FM talked about the trade and economic opportunities in the post-sanctions era and invited the country to seize the opportunity in pace with other nations.

Massieu, for her part, congratulated Iran on its political achievement, especially the nuclear agreement, and emphasized on the need for further expansion of political and economic relations between the two countries.

The Iranian FM also met Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz and talked about the refugee and Syria’s crises.

Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned the silence and indifference of the European countries towards Saudi and added “The illogical behavior of Saudi Arabia in the Syrian and Yemeni crises has not only faced a just reaction of the European countries and the US, but while it is bombarding Yemen it is being supported by the West and the UN Security Council resolution instead of receiving criticisms.”

Meeting with Swiss FM Didier Burkhalter, Zarif said Iran is ready to boost bilateral ties in all areas and hailed the country’s role in different international arenas particularly the humanitarian fields.

Burkhalter, for his part, talked about the removal of sanctions in August and emphasized on mutual confidence between the two countries. He also called for opening bilateral talks in different political and economical fields.

In other news, Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, in his meeting with Zarif, pointed to the good relations between both the countries and the preparations for removal of EU's sanctions and expansion of bilateral ties.

He also pointed to the importance of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's speech at the UN General Assembly and the fight against terrorism and the ISIL.

He added “the EU and Luxembourg will help to change the humanitarian situation in the regional countries and Iran’s help will certainly be important.”

The Iranian FM and his South Korean counterpart Yun Byung-se talked about political relations.

Zarif pointed to the latest developments of the nuclear agreement, and called on the South Korean side to seize the opportunity and use the economic capacities of Iran for expanding trade with the Central Asia and Middle East.

Yun Byung-se congratulated Zarif for the nuclear deal and hoped that his country could use the experiences of the agreement for promoting peace in East Asia and the Korean peninsula.
