On last Thursday, Gary Lewis applied a knot to carpet called ‘Carpet of Peace' along with all guests and dignitaries of the ceremony. The idea of Carpet of Peace was perceived by Amin and Marzieh Khosravi. The carpet incorporates a map of the globe and will promote the theme of ‘every human, a knot’ while on public display. The carpet is an ambassador of peace and a public object on which to apply knots by any cultural, sport, art, and literary figure as well as street-level citizens of any race, ethnicity, and religion or faith. The carpet ID card will keep a record of names of the people who apply knots to the carpet.
The carpet will incorporate 70,000 knots travelling different regions of the world. Every knot will represent a culture. The initiative seeks to communicate Iranians’ message of peace and friendship to the world by juxtaposing all cultures in a unit.
Weaving the carpet will last two years. The first ever knot has been applied by Goldasteh Barzi, a century-old women of Qashqai tribal community in Firouzabad, Fars Province. The last knot is planned to be applied by one of the innocent children of war-stricken regions of the world.
