Region's crises unsolvable sans Iran: Velayati

TEHRAN, Sep. 08 (MNA) – Iran’s former FM Velayati met with visiting Spanish FM José Manuel García-Margallo in his office in Tehran on Monday.

The Head of Expediency Council Strategic Research Center Ali-Akbar Velayati on Monday met with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo who is visiting Tehran.

Iran’s former FM appreciated Spain policy toward post-Revolution Iran and referred to the history of ties between the two nations.

Velayati also recounted the history stating that the first Spanish delegation had arrived in Iran 4 centuries ago during Safavid era.

Iranian veteran diplomat told the reporters that he had exchanged views with the Spanish official on regional issues of Syria and Iraq saying that they shared a lot in common.  

The former Iranian foreign minister affirmed that the Syrian crisis could not be solved through military means underlining the political approach toward the issue.

Leader's Adviser Velayati commented on Iran-Europe relations saying that Iran has been continuously in touch with European countries after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and the current racing for resumption of ties show that the relations will be restored once the sanctions are lifted.

Velayati added that Iran is a key player in the region with high capacities that attracts European countries and there is no country in the world like Iran.

Commenting on the current issues of the region, Velayati asserted that the problems were unsolvable without Iran as Iran is holding good intention in dealing with issues.

During the meeting, Velayati was invited to travel to Spain to visit the counterpart strategic research center of Spain.
