Iranian v-ballers push on 2nd round Asian games

TEHRAN, Aug. 03 (MNA) – Winning three consecutive fights in Pool A, the Iranian volleyballers advanced to the 2nd round of Asian Volleyball Championship.

After 3 straight 3-0 victories over Kuwait, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei, the Iranian national B team advanced to 2nd round of the 2015 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship.

In their last preliminary round match on Sunday evening, Iranian volleyball players blanked Chinese Taipei 3-0 in a Pool A game of the tournament at the 12,000-seater Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran.

The hosts beat their mighty rival in three consecutive sets: 25-16, 25-16 and 25-19.

In its two previous games, the Iranian team picked up a straight-set win over Kuwait (25-13, 25-22, 25-13) in its opening match on Friday and then scored a straight-sets victory in its second match versus Kazakhstan (25-23, 25-16, 27-25).

The Iranian volleyball B squad, with 38-year-old Iranian Peyman Akbari at the helm, crowned Pool A with nine points from three straight victories, and is expected to encounter the Thai volleyball squad on Monday and the South Koreans on Tuesday at the same venue.

The 2015 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship opened at Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran on July 31 and will run until August 8.

Australia, India, Turkmenistan and Qatar form Pool B, and Oman, Pakistan, South Korea and Thailand are drawn in Pool C. Pool D comprises Bahrain, China, Japan as well as Sri Lanka.   

Prior to the event, teams not seeded were drawn in Tehran city of  Iran on 22 April 2015.
