“The UN Security Council has finally agreed to Iran’s uranium enrichment program after eight years of objection,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told Lebanese al-Mayadeen television channel on Tuesday.
Referring to the talks between Iran and the 5+1 over the past 22 months, he said, “two years of diplomacy and respect proved more effective than years of animosity and hatred.”
“The world has changed; now respect and diplomacy are the two main keys to the resolution of disagreements,” he said.
He also maintained that the Islamic Republic is ready to counter common challenges alongside the Arab countries, stressing that extremism and sectarian conflicts are the two major challenges undermining the security of the region.
Zarif further noted that Israel exploits disagreements and conflicts so that it could cover up its crimes and inhuman policies toward nations in the Middle East region; “peace threatens the existence of the Israel,” he said.
Following the announcement of the landmark agreement between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries over Tehran’s nuclear program, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the achievement as “a bad mistake of historic proportions.”
This comes as a host of countries across the world including regional countries and a great number of other countries in Asia and Europe have extended their support for the nuclear agreement.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Tuesday described the agreement as a “sign of hope” in the world and especially in the region.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, issuing a statement on Tuesday, also announced his support for the nuclear deal reached in Vienna and extended felicitations to all negotiators involved in the process.
