Mohammad Mokhtari’s late winner helped Iran begin their 2015 FIFA Beach World Cup in style on Friday thanks to a sensational 6-5 win over Spain.
The Asian side struck twice in the final couple of minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, with Mohammad Mokhtari's winning goal - his second of the match - consigning the 2013 runner-up to an unexpected loss.
The result leaves Iran, for the time being at least, at the top of Group C – a group that also includes Mexico and Brazil.
Iran is now scheduled to face most-decorated Brazil on Sunday.
The trophy got underway at Praia da Baía in Espinho, where the 16 finalists are fighting it out for the right to become FIFA Beach Soccer world champion of 2015.
