Iranian superstars’ return ‘good news’

TEHRAN, May 23 (MNA) – Iran’s volleyball national squad superstar has said return of injured Amir Ghafour, Shahram Mahmoudi and Adel Gholami is good news for national squad just before the world league.

Farhad Qaemi told reporters on Saturday that superstars had been a source of spirit and self-confidence for the whole team; “I am very happy that guys are in ideal conditions again; they are part and parcel of the national squad; the match against Czech Republic was a good display and we managed to meet the demands made by the managers; they [Czech Republic] were under severe pressure and lost the match,” said Qaemi, expressing hopes that the team would keep the pace in the second match as well.

“Matches with Finland and Czech Republic were crucial to Iran; the games helped us significantly in preparation for the world league; the conditions for Iran are quite different than those last year; we have six matches away from home, with the first week a match with the world league champions, the US, which is a tough team to win,” said Qaemi.

“I believe from the third week on, all teams find their true form; we hope for a good start to make happy the nation just was the case past years,” added the volleyball superstar.

Iran’s national volleyball squad will leave for Los Angeles to play in the two matches in the first leg against the hosting US in May 30-31.
