Army kicks off joint military drills in Sea of Oman

BANDR ABBAS, Dec. 25 (MNA) – Gen. Seyed Abdorrahim Mousavi has opened the military drill titled Mohammad the Messenger of Allah in southern waters.

The Zulfaghar Command Center was where on Thursday morning the great joint military drill of the army was launched by the commander of the drills Gen. Mousavi. The first phase of the drill will deploy army ground force units, air fighters, and air-defense systems in southeastern provinces and surface and sub-surface destroyers in the depths of coastal waters of Sea of Oman.

The first phase will also be a great test for the ease of mobility, logistical support, and engineering stronghold building, and deployment of command centers in different spots of Sistan and Baluchistan province through projects to accelerate the pace of the mobilization of the army units.

Drones manufactured by Space Industries of the Defense Ministry will also test-fly; war simulation, intelligence eavesdropping operations and electronic warfare, and parachute air jumps will be in the first phase of the drill which will make use of 27 ordinations and expertise of the army.

Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari, who is also spokesman of the ground section of the drills, announced the objectives of the drills as being transferring of operational experiences to young officers to make them competent enough to implement the Zulfaghar Command Center military orders and wide-range offensive in the second phase.

“The drills will present army’s combat and defensive capabilities and a number of productions in the field; the forces will start the drills in an area of 43,000 square meters,” added the deputy-commander.
