Iranian Interior Minister and Head of Iran Drug Control Headquarters Abdolreza Rahamani Fazli proposed the establishment of a state center for cooperation and coordination among emergency organizations of the Caspian Sea littoral states.
The Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Andreyevich Puchkov welcomed Iran’s proposal and announced that his respective ministry would endeavor for its realization.
“This proposal is in line with the implementation of agreements that were reached at the summit of the Caspian littoral states’ leaders at Astrakhan in order to develop cooperation,” said Rahmani Fazli.
He noted that this center could function as an independent unit to combat such issues as Caspian Sea pollution and holding war games to deal with unexpected events and incidents.
“The littoral states’ relief organizations must be able to rush to one another’s aid in case of emergency, without having to deal with any bureaucratic barriers,” he said.
Puchkov, while deeming this proposal highly beneficial, expressed confidence that the other littoral states would also receive it with open arms.
He also stressed the importance of earthquakes and called on the two countries’ cooperation in the field of seismology.
The Iranian interior minister heading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Moscow on Monday and is scheduled to meet with his Russian Counterpart Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev during his two-day official visit.
