According to IRNA, Secretary of FM Commission of Disarmament Conventions Hadi Farajvand addressed the 19th Conference of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the Hague.
Outlining Iran's position on prohibiting chemical weapons, Farajvand described such weapons as a threat to international peace and security.
Iran representative to OPCE conference urged the countries possessing chemical weapons to be fully committed to their obligations as for the destruction of their chemical weapons and existing reserves according to the decision taken by the organization.
In his speech at the conference, Hadi Farajvand emphasized that Iran has been the last and mostly damaged victim of the use of chemical weapons, adding that tens of thousands in Iran suffer the horrible effects of these deadly and inhuman weapons. He appreciated the decision adopted by the 16th Conference of OPCW for establishment of an international network to support victims of chemical weapons.
In another part of his speech, Farajvand cited the international and mutual cooperation of member states in the field of chemical technology and economic development and urged all countries and OPCW to create a plan of action in order to meet full and nondiscriminatory implementation of the convention provisions.
In his statement at the annual conference of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Hadi Farajvand pointed to the importance of the universality of the convention and its role in maintaining international peace and security in the world and said Israeli stockpiles of mass destruction weapons were the greatest threat to regional and international peace and security.
Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was passed in 1997 in the Hague and has currently 190 member states with the Israeli regime, Myanmar, Egypt, Somalia, North Korea and the newly formed nation of South Sudan not party to the Convention.
