Owrazan: Birthplace of Jalal Al-e-Ahmad

TEHRAN, Sep. 09 (MNA) – In commemoration of Jalal Al-e-Ahmad, prominent Iranian writer, MNA took a look at his birthplace, Owrazan village in Taleghan.

Owrazan village has been registered into the national heritage list and is a great tourist attraction due to its beautiful nature, large gardens with walnut trees, and shrines. It dates back to the late Safavid period and has been the birthplace of many prominent individuals such as 45 writers and Quran scribes.

Al-e-Ahmad, writer of great novels such as The School Principal, and By the Pen (both translated into English), has a book titled Owrazan in which he has meticulously depicted the daily life of the villagers. It includes details such as Owrazan’s geographical location, general condition, religious issues, costumes, local food, local clothes and wedding receptions.

Among the village’s cultural attractions, one could point to the house of Ayatollah Mahmoud Taleghani, an Iranian theologian, humanist and Muslim reformer. Other historical sites include several castles [Arjang Castle in Minavand, Mansoor Castle in the north of Haranj,…], shrines, baths and mills.

Historical, natural and cultural properties of Taleghan have led to the emergence such prominent figures in painting, calligraphy and music. Darvish Abdol Majid Taleghani (master of cursive calligraphy), Mir Emad Amirkhani (nastaligh calligraphy), and Qolam Hossein Darwish (master of music).

Jalal Al-e-Ahmad was born on December 2, 1923 in the small village of Owrazan in Taleghan mountains and died on September 9, 1969.
