Army Air Force former commander dies

TEHRAN, June 22 (MNA) – A former Army Air Force commander has died of wounds inflicted upon him during Iran-Iraq War (1980-88).

Air Force Gen. Mohammad Hossein Moinpour died yesterday (Saturday) after decades of pain from pulmonary infection.

The funeral was held today morning in the Air Force Headquarters with high-ranking officers of the Army Air Force attending.

Moinpour was commander-in-chief of the air force in the early years of the war. He entered military academy in 1952 and graduated from the academy and served as pilot in the army air force.

He also completed special training courses in the US and Britain. After the Revolution, Moinpour was among the group of army generals who joined the Revolution. In 1982 he was proposed as commander of the air force by Gen.  Valiollah Fallahi.

Under his command, the army won significant victories in different operations including Fatholmobin and Beitolmoqaddas, which liberated Khorramshahr from Baathist occupation.
