23rd Fajr Intl. Film Festival kicks off tomorrow night

TEHRAN,Jan. 29 (MNA) -- The opening ceremony of the 23rd Fajr International Film Festival is being held tomorrow night in Tehran at the Grand Hall of the Interior Ministry.

Veteran actor Faramarz Qaribian and makeup artist Abdollah Eskandari are to be honored during the ceremony.

 

Qaribian, 64, won the best actor awards at the Sixth Fajr International Film Festival in 1988 for “The Train”, the Moscow International Film Festival in 2003 for "Dancing in the Dust", and several other Iranian and foreign film festivals. He also won the Special Jury Prize of the 35th International Film Festival of India in 2004 for his role in "Beautiful City".

 

Eskandari, 60, has worked as a makeup artist in over 30 films and TV series and won several awards at Iranian festivals.

 

The ceremony is scheduled to open with the screening of an introductory short film made by Bijan Mirbaqeri, Farzad Mo’tamen, Aziz Sa’ati, Majid Barzegar, and Hamed Mohammadi.

 

The stage was designed by Iraj Raminfar and his colleagues.

 

Over 250 Iranian and foreign films will be screened at this year’s festival, which will feature several sections including the Iranian Cinema Competition, the Documentary Cinema Competition, the International Competition, the Spiritual Cinema Competition, and the Asia Cinema Competition sections as well as the non-competition Festival of Festivals, the Special Screening, the Politics in the Mirror of Cinema, and the Visual Effects sections.

 

The Sahra, Felestin, Asr-e Jadid, Bahman, Paytakht, Farhang, Sepideh, Jomhuri, Sorush, Africa, and Crystal cinemas will be screening films this year.

 

The 23rd Fajr Film Festival will run through until February 10.
