First Banana Tree Fructified In Abadan

TEHRAN July 19 (MNA) -— First banana tree fructified in Shalheh Samaver a village in Abadan city, Khuzestan southern province, said Abadan director of Agriculture Jihad, Abdolkarim Foruzesh, here on Monday.

Bananas with high quality are to find way into the market this year, IRNA quoted him as saying.

 

After the agriculture Jihad experts made great efforts in Abadan for years, the cultivation of banana seedlings finally bore fruit, Foruzesh added.

 

Given the unfavorable climate, the development plan of banana cultivation is a great development in the agriculture of the area, he declared.

 

He went on to say that the banana tree would fructify in a five-year-period given the continental conditions.

 

800 seedlings of banana, olive and grapes were distributed among Abadani gardeners with the aim of making the best use of water and soil, having various products in horticulture and increasing the gardeners’ income, he said.

 

Around 2,500,000 palm dates are scattered in 17,500 hectare of fields in Abadan city, he added.
